Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Lots of rain this morning, much to the relief of the island of Bali. With the rain came the wind from the west, which chopped up the surf conditions at first light. Once the weather cleared, the wind turned offshore, leaving us with some decent surf conditions and a light crowd. The surfers enjoyed mostly head-high surf with a few larger sets. The waves were clean and lined up nicely for long, fast rides. Great surf, considering how the morning started.

When the rain and the wind come this time of the year, most of the surfers head to the Nusa Dua area, where the wind blows offshore. On days like today, when the conditions clean up mid-morning, you can get some excellent surf in uncrowded conditions.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Excellent surfing at Uluwatu this morning! Our surfers enjoyed high-quality, overhead surf at Bali’s premier surf break. The conditions were clean with a light offshore wind and a mid/low tide. The racetrack section delivered barrels and turn sections for the surfers who can spot the good waves that become long rides, from the faster waves that race off. Top local surfer and instructor, Scotty, expertly directed the surfers onto the best waves.

Uluwatu really is one of the best waves in the world. Additionally, it offers world-class surfing for 9 + months out of the year. It works on any size, any tide, and holds an unfavourable wind well. Not least of all, it is an incredible place to spend a week or two on holiday.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Dreamland

What a morning for beginner surf lessons! An offshore wind, a smooth sea state, and a fun-sized swell provided excellent surfing conditions for our developing surfers. There was plenty of swell this morning, with some of the waves coming in at up to overhead high. The beginner-friendly surf came in the form of slow-moving peaks breaking both left and right. The location of the peak tends to shift at Dreamland, which is different from the mechanical consistency of Padang Padang. The surfers all had great rides and enjoyed the stunning natural beauty of the place.

We are enjoying an extended period of excellent weather here in Uluwatu. Despite a few morning rain showers, the days have been sunny with light wind. This is great for exploring the area. See you out there!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

More excellent surfing on this first day of the new year! The swell is up, and we had a big rainshower in the morning. Once the tide came up and after a New Year’s sleep-in, our beginner surfers were out at Padang Padang. There were some overhead set waves with plenty of shoulder-high waves in between the bigger sets. After the rainshower, the wind switched offshore, and with the lineup smoothed by the rain, the conditions were excellent. Our surfers were able to link up some long rides after having excellent practice at the lengthy right-handers at Toro-Toro.

Happy New Year’s Day to all! We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who surfed with us last year. Anticipate an exciting 2024 as we look forward to the adventures that lie ahead.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Toro-Toro

We are back at the surf camp’s favourite wave- Toro-Toro! Plus, Bali received some much-needed rain this morning. Despite the mixed weather, the rain did not dampen the fun our surfers had. The waves were smaller in size than previous days, yet they were plenty clean and fun. The beginner-friendly rights broke nicely down the reef as planeloads of holidaymakers arrived in time for this evening’s festivities.

An easy day like today will help a developing surfer make significant progress. Once you make the takeoff, you have a long, clean line ahead of you. This is perfect for learning how to ride along the face of the wave. The wave grows after the takeoff, which, if you can get down the line in time, will set you up for an incredible ride.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our intermediate and advanced surfers enjoyed an incredible surf at Uluwatu this morning! The swell is fading in size and consistency however there were still plenty of overhead set waves coming in at the exposed end of Ulwuatu. The conditions were beautiful and clean, with an incredible view at the base of the cliffs. The lineup was peaceful, with turtles swimming about looking for breakfast. The famous wave served overhead-high surf with some larger sets for the more experienced of the crew. The rides were long and the conditions were very clean. Some surfers reported the longest lefts they have ever had.

We are enjoying an incredible end to the year here in Uluwatu. The mornings have been very clean, and the southwest wind has been light. See you out there!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Excellent beginner surf conditions this morning! Our surfers waited for the tide to come up, where they found beautiful, easy-breaking waves at Padang Padang. As a bonus, we enjoyed a late-season offshore wind, which is when the wind blows against the waves. This has the affect of holding the wave face up for longer, delaying the crest of the wave. This gives you more room on the wave, resulting in longer rides at Padang Padang.

The beginner surfers worked on getting to their feet and controlling their surfboard. Something that is more easily done when the wave is as long as it is at Padang Padang. Additionally, every wave breaks in a similar way, which further speeds up the time it takes to get up and riding with control.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

More fun, quiet season surf in Uluwatu! The swell is up, the sun is shining, and the waves are good! Despite the light southwest wind, the surfers had a great time and enjoyed the end-of-year sunshine. The waves were in the overhead range, with a few larger sets that Uluwatu always delivers. Despite the unfavourable wind, the Race Track section of Uluwatu served up long and fun rides, with waves of various sizes for different levels of surfers. The more experienced surfers can take off on the bigger and faster waves, while the less experienced can wait for waves farther down the reef or more inside.

We have more fun surfing to close out the year. Plenty of swell, a wind that is not too strong, and excellent weather.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our intermediate and advanced surfers were off to Uluwatu this morning. The swell has dropped in size and consistency yesterday as we await the arrival of the next swell. There was a light wind from the southwest which added texture to the lineup. Wave heights were in the head-high range, and the faces of the waves were still clean despite the unfavourable wind. Top local surfer and group leader, Scotty, got the wave of the day with a long ride connecting several sections. The crew all had a few fun left-handers and enjoyed the opportunity to surf Uluwatu with friendly conditions.

We are still enjoying very fun surf in the Uluwatu area during this quiet season. Soon, we will be surfing in Nusa Dua, just a short drive away.
