Klotok Surf Spot Info, Report and Forecast

Surfing at Klotok

Klotok is an excellent rock-bottomed right-hand point break wave on the East Coast of Bali that features long rides with an easy take-off, followed by a plethora of turn and barrel sections. The rides here can go for very long. In an area full of advanced waves, this is the best option for intermediate surfers in the area. That being said, it still breaks with that thumping East Coast power the coastline is known for.

Similar to Keramas, it holds a very large swell and is surfable from small to big. This break needs a low to mid tide to work properly. On a high tide, the wave is degraded by backwash from the waves bouncing off the walking path. When the tide is too low, the waves break too quickly. Best in the morning in the wet season before the land heats up, drawing the wind onshore. Be careful getting back to the carpark after your session as both the sand and pathway get very hot in the mid-day sun. Also, be careful of the shore break if paddling out from near the car park. The closer you are to the point, the smaller the shore break is.

Access used to be a barrier—Klotok was rarely surfed due to its secluded location behind rice fields and its distance from the main tourist areas. But that’s changing. With new villas and homestays now appearing nearby, the break is seeing more consistent traffic from traveling surfers.

Advanced Surf Guiding at Klotok

A trip up the coast this morning brought us to Klotok, an excellent right point break further up the highway than most surfers travel. The fresh swell was showing its power with the biggest sets reaching 1.5x + overhead. A slight onshore wind was building through the session however the surf was still very good. The waves broke in long lines down the headland at a quick pace, with a few turn sections mixed in. There were waves of various sizes coming in. You had to be careful not to be caught by the bigger set waves that would occasionally come through the lineup.
