Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another small wave day in Bali. However, when you are a short drive away from the best wave in the world at any size, small days are still fun days. The conditions this morning were stunning- a light offshore wind, clear water, and clean waves. These extra small conditions allow surfers who would otherwise still be at Padang Padang a chance to paddle through the iconic cave and experience the magic of Uluwatu. The surfers enjoyed the waist to shoulder high waves, and many enjoyed long rides across the reef.
Uluwatu is an incredible wave at any size. On days like today, beginner surfers can relish in the long rides and beautiful scenery at the base of the cliff. Now is a great time of the year for beginner and intermediate surfing!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Today is a small wave day in Bali. This did not present an issue for our beginner surfers as the conditions were clean, the crowd was easy, and everyone was having a great time! Wave heights hover around waist-high, occasionally punctuated by larger sets. The long rides pealed nicely across the reef at a slow pace, ideal for learning to surf.

When the waves are small, slow-moving, and clean, a fresh surfer can improve by leaps and bounds in a short amount of time. In conditions like these, everything happens at a slower pace. You have more time to get to your feet and you travel across the wave face at a slower speed. All of this means that you can understand the art of surfing quickly.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

What a morning we had at everyone’s favourite beginner wave! With an early morning low tide, our surfers waited till mid-morning to begin their surf experience. The conditions may not have been the standard glassy perfection today, but our beginner surfers had a great time and made significant progress in the fun waves. The swell, diminishing in size and consistency over preceding days, yielded up to shoulder-high set waves, breaking in slow-moving lines. The wind was blowing moderately from the south, which blows sideways to the direction the waves are breaking, causing a texture to the lineup.

With proper instruction, a positive attitude, and extra motivation from our always smiling surf instructors, you are sure to be up and riding quickly while having the time of your life.

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

What a morning we had at the surf camp’s favourite low tide wave- Dreamland. The A-frame peak delivered the goods, serving long, fast, lefts with the rights moving along just a little slower. The waves were very clean, and the wind was blowing offshore! The swell has dropped just enough in size and consistency since yesterday to allow our intermediate surfers to challenge themselves in overhead + sized waves.

The surfers worked on building confidence when dropping into bigger waves, something that is more easily done under the watchful eye and careful guidance of our surf instructors. Known for their endless positivity and magnetic personalities, our surf instructors are the guys who will make sure you have a memorable session and that you are on the best waves.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another excellent morning in surfing paradise! We have a fresh swell, which has increased the size and consistency of the surf! Our surfers enjoyed overhead + waves with a few larger sets. Our intermediate surfers picked off the smaller in-between waves, while the advanced surfers went for the bombs. The conditions in the morning were clean, with a wind from the west picking up towards the end of the session. Despite the grey morning, everyone got some excellent rides and gained experience surfing a proper reef break.

We are approaching that time of year when we begin to shift the breaks we surf. Starting soon, we will swap Uluwatu with Chicken Wings and Geger Left, and Padang Padang with Mushroom Rock. As always in Bali, it is forever offshore somewhere.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Beautiful beginner surf conditions this morning! Our developing surfers enjoyed shoulder-high waves with a calm and clear ocean- exactly what a beginner surfer needs for a memorable day in the line-up! The waves were just the perfect size for a new surfer to easily learn to get to their feet and get that first good ride that they have been dreaming about. The surfers enjoyed getting wave after wave, which speeds up the learning process by leaps and bounds.

Additionally, the waves at Padang Padang break similarly to each other, formed by the shape of the reef below the waves. This repetition allows a surfer to improve at an exponential rate compared to most other beginner surf beaches- just one of the many reasons why Padang Padang is the perfect beginner wave!

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Flawless surf at Dreamland this morning! The A-frame peak delivered the goods with long, glassy lines coming in at a consistent interval. The swell has dropped since yesterday, but we are still seeing overhead waves, with a few larger ones left over from yesterday. The lefts were long, fast, smooth, and enjoyable. And the rights were slower and shorter with big cutback sections- perfect for dialling in your cutback technique.

The waves today were the perfect size for our intermediate surfers to make lasting improvements in their surfing. The surfers worked on riding the waves with their body (and feet) positioned correctly over the surfboard, which allows a surfer to efficiently control their speed by shifting their weight distribution forwards and backwards while maintaining the functional stance. More perfect days incoming!

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

We have some chunky waves this morning! Our surfers enjoyed the exhilarating surf at the very picturesque Balangan. The surfers mostly stuck to the head-high waves and paddled past the few larger set waves that came in. The wind was blowing offshore at the onset of the session, however, it changed directions towards the end of the surf. The smaller waves offered fun fast and slow sections. Some long rides were on offer for surfers able to read and react to the sections.

The surfers worked on reading the oncoming sections of a wave, which a surfer uses to match their pace to that of the wave. Knowing when to speed and up and slow down is extremely helpful for turning an average ride to into a leg-burning ride of a holiday.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

There is fresh, new life in the Indian Ocean this morning! Our beginner surfers enjoyed beautiful surf conditions- clear, warm water and perfect beginner-friendly waves. The waves were in the head-high range, the wave faces were particularly clean, and the wind was very light offshore for the duration of the session. The bump in wave size allowed the waves to run along the reef for longer, making for some exceptionally long rides. What a session everyone had!

The surfers worked on controlling the extra speed derived from the bigger and cleaner wave faces. To control this speed, a surfer must learn to keep their weight centred over the centre line of the surfboard, and their centre of gravity low- all of which are elements of the functional stance.
