Surfing at Baby Reef
Baby Reef in Sanur is a popular beginner-friendly surf spot located about 700 meters offshore from Pantai Mertasari. It’s a go-to choice for surf schools and longboarders looking for gentle, forgiving waves in a calm setting. The break works best during smaller swells and at mid to high tide, when you’ll find a few mellow lefts and rights rolling through. The waves are soft and slow, giving new surfers plenty of time to stand up and practice basic turns.
When the swell is small, the wave holds its shape nicely and can get up to around head high. Once it gets any bigger than that, though, it tends to lose its form—getting messy and closing out more often. The reef bottom is relatively safe, but it’s still something beginners should be mindful of, especially during lower tides.
