Balangan Surf Spot Info, Report and Forecast

After a couple of days of bigger waves, the swell has dropped and shoulder to head-high sets came consistently at Balangan this morning. Due to the very low tide at 7 am, we decided to have breakfast first and surf with the incoming tide.

When we arrived, only a few other people were out, and catching waves was easy. The session was fun and everyone had a great time. On days like this, with only a handful of other surfers in the water, you can improve a lot due to the high wave count. The more waves you catch the more progress you will make. After a well-deserved break on the beach, we decided to take advantage of the high tide and go again for another session.

Balangan did not disappoint as usual. We surfed shoulder-high, great waves all morning long. The moderate offshore wind helped the waves to stay open nicely and everyone had long, clean rides. Perfect conditions for our intermediate group to practice turns and generate speed.

This surf spot works best when the swell comes from the south. The more south, the better it gets, because the waves peel along the reef nicely and stay open much longer. Combined with the offshore wind conditions between July and September, it is one of the best and most consistent breaks in Bali. Today was great for our intermediate group. The gentle breaking peaks offered long and clean rides where you could practice turning very well. On Thursday a new, bigger swell will arrive and everyone is excited to explore more of the waves Bali has to offer.

Balangan was super fun this morning! Clean, mellow, but long waves were breaking at this beautiful surf spot. Perfect for our intermediate group to practice catching waves and going left. The swell has dropped a little more since yesterday, but it is still big enough to get head-high sets coming through from time to time.

We expect the waves to be like this until tomorrow, then a new swell will arrive and we are looking forward to having bigger surf again. Places like Toro Toro and Airport Rights are on our list for the upcoming days. Everybody is excited and can’t wait to go out there and get some amazing rides. The high season is slowly coming to an end, but no lack of swell is in sight. Bali has waves year-round and great conditions for all surf levels.

Surprisingly the swell turned out to be smaller than expected. This is not a bad thing because we got to surf Balangan again today where everyone was catching great waves. Due to the full moon, we decided to do an early bird session before the tide got too high.

On high tides like this and smaller swells, some of the spots can go almost flat for a while. Knowing when the tide is high or low is very important as this affects the wave’s quality and surfing experience. Luckily with our local knowledge of the surf spots, we are always at the right spot at the right time!
