Surfing at Kuta Beach

Kuta Beach is much underrated. Unlike Canggu, the Tradewind blows offshore here, so the various peaks can be surfed all day in the dry season. The wet season can be awful, with plastic everywhere as the onshore winds blow in rubbish from everywhere, but from April to November, the waves and beach are usually clean.

Shifting sands means the best location on the beach will change regularly, but nearly always somewhere breaking good. Padma is consistently the best spot, located directly in front of Padma Hotel. Like most beachies, it does not handle high periods or big swells. Different peaks can be perfect for beginner surfers and longboarders on small days, excellent for intermediate surfers on a high tide, and even advanced surfers when the sand banks form nice peaks.

Intermediate surf guiding at Kuta Beach ★★★★★

The swell was picking up again and we decided to pay the famous Kuta Beach a visit. Although this is a beach break and the waves are usually much softer than the ones down south in the Bukit, for beginners and intermediate surfers who are just starting to catch waves, it is perfect.

Especially for kids, it is a great wave to play with. For practicing pop-ups, this is probably the best spot to do it. The sandy bottom is very safe and you don’t need to worry about where to get out of the water if you get tired. Just take the next wave and you are on the beach again. White water or green waves, choose the right ones for your surfing level and you will have a great time!
