Kuta Reef Surf Spot Info, Report and Forecast

Surfing at Kuta Reef

Kuta Reef is the highest quality Airport Reef wave due to its predictive nature and length of ride. It’s best surfed at mid-tide and throws the occasional soft-barrel. On the biggest swells Kuta reef is excellent at high tide and is one of the best waves in the world for intermediate-advanced surfers.

Kuta Reef has a difficult take off if the tide is low, but gets much more fogiving as the tide fills in and becomes a truly perfect wave. But this means it can get very crowded with local surfers and tourists all searching for that easy barrel and long ride. On the bigger days the wave gets better and less crowded. This wave is less exposed to swell than other airport reefs and it breaks closer to shore.

Advanced Surf Guiding at Kuta Reef

Today is a big wave day in Bali. The premier breaks are all working their magic with the combination of a moderate offshore wind, a good range of tide, and plenty of swell. The expert surfers put on a show at The Bombie and Outside Corner at Uluwatu, and the trials of the Rip Curl Cup are on today.

Our advanced group headed out to Kuta Reef, capitalizing on the early morning high tide and significant swell. At the outside section, waves broke hard and fast, presenting barrels for those adept at making the steep drops. Down the line, the wave offered a more manageable takeoff with several turn sections before dissipating into deeper water.

Intermediate Surf Guiding at Kuta Reef

We are enjoying a big jump in swell today! A large swell arrived on our doorstep in conjunction with a favourable tide and calm winds. The surfers enjoyed the long, overhead lines of the famed Kuta Reef. The wave is made up of a challenging takeoff followed by a long, open wall with several turn sections- perfect for working on your cutback! The wind was blowing lightly onshore, however, the wave faces remained clean and the sea-state smooth.

These conditions are the perfect ingredients for all of the island’s hot spots to turn on, providing the variety of world-class waves that you can only find in Bali. From big waves at Uluwatu, long rights at Toro-Toro, long lefts at Kuta Reef, intense perfection at Sri Lanka, and many more!
