Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers had a lovely morning at the perfect wave for surfers just learning to glide across a breaking ocean wave. Padang Padang was breaking in clean lines in both left and right directions. The Tradewind was light offshore at the start of the session, and increased in strength as the sun rose higher in the sky. The beginner surfers enjoyed wave heights in the waist-to-shoulder high range, which is a great size for those just finding their bearings.

We are sitting through an unseasonal gap in swells until the next swell arrives on Thursday, August 31st. There are still plenty of waves to go around for beginner and intermediate surfers, as Uluwatu never really goes flat like the majority of surf destinations around the world do.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Small wave fun this morning at the Surf Camp’s favourite wave! Our beginner surfers enjoyed the waist-high waves rolling into the little bay. Despite the ominous-looking clouds coming from the mountains, the foul weather held off for the duration of the session. The shifting breeze blew offshore for most of the session, and the sea state remained smooth. The surfers worked on paddling with their body in the correct position and with their elbows high (Top Tip: many people do not paddle correctly. Incorrect paddling technique will cause you to tire prematurely and may cause an injury).

Big swell incoming! The Indian Ocean is sending a large swell our way, which we will see by sunset. Friday and Saturday will see double overhead + sized surf. Stay safe!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Today at the camp favourite, Padang Padang, our beginner surfers enjoyed another fun day with clear skies, shining sun, and offshore winds. Waves in the Uluwatu area remained in the overhead range, providing pumping surf at Uluwatu, long lines at Impossibles, and perfect barrels at Bingin. At Padang Padang, the surfers chose to ride the reform wave, as the sets were just a little above the beginner surfers’ skill levels. The reform offered easy, waist-high waves which peeled slowly across the reef- just at the perfect size for developing surfers. As you can see from the smiles in the photos, all had a great time.

The swell will continue to fade in size today and tomorrow, with a very large swell filling in by Friday evening. Happy surfing!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Jimbaran

The swell has jumped in size considerably overnight, offering up huge waves for the bravest and most skilled surfers. This new pulse of swell was too powerful for Baby Padang to be surfed safely, so our beginner surfers headed to a tucked-away corner in Jimbaran to catch some fun waves. At Jimbaran, our beginner surfers found the shoulder-high, beginner-friendly waves they were looking for. The waves broke in nice lines, groomed by the offshore wind and the bathymetry of Jimbaran Bay, much to our surfers’ enjoyment.

The swell is peaking throughout the day today, which means the waves tomorrow will be of a more manageable size at most locations around the Bukit. Today is a great day to grab a seat and a cold drink cliffside at Uluwatu and watch the show!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Big surf on our coastline today, but that does not slow our beginner surfers down! Our dedicated surfers choose to stick to the inside reform wave, which is a great option when the swell picks up. On the reform wave, the surfers enjoyed waist-to-shoulder high waves breaking with clean lines across the reef. The wind blew perfectly offshore at a gentle pace, and the sun was doing its best to appear from behind a cloud. The surfers enjoyed an exciting session as they observed the expert surfers testing their barrel riding skills at the world-renowned Padang Padang Left, just on the other side of the channel.

The swell will fade throughout the day today after peaking this morning and will continue to offer well-overhead surf for the next two days.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

This morning, our beginner surfers braved the out-of-season rain and paddled out to Baby Padang. Despite the rain, the surfers had a great time surfing the waist-high inside reform of the surf break as the larger sets broke on the outside. The swell has picked up considerably overnight, approaching the double overhead range at the standout spots. The offshore tropical system caused the wind to blow slightly onshore; however, the protected wave at Padang Padang remained clean.

Unlike in many Western countries or densely populated areas, there is no issue with surfing in the rain here.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our group of beginner surfers had a great morning at Baby Padang. The surfing conditions were top-notch! Compared to yesterday, the swell has increased in size considerably, with up to head-high waves on offer! Predictably, the wind was blowing slightly offshore, which is the ideal direction for surfing. The wave faces were smooth and glassy, allowing everyone to enjoy long, smooth rides.

The surfers worked on getting into the functional stance from the pop-up, which is an essential step towards progressing beyond a beginner level. Once you have developed the ability to ride from the top of the wave in the functional stance, a new level of control and speed becomes available to you.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

It was a beautiful morning at Padang Padang for our beginner surfers! The wind was calm, the sun was shining, and the waves were waist-high! These are perfect conditions for first-time surfers. Today’s smaller waves offered a more relaxed experience as there is minimal water movement and less force behind each wave. This slower pace of the session enables beginners to comfortably find their balance and enjoy the long rides along the protected reef.

The favorable conditions, characterized by a tranquil tropical environment, contribute to a faster skill improvement for newcomers compared to surfing in most locations, which require a wetsuit and offer a lower-quality wave. June has proven to be an exceptional month for both beginner and intermediate surfers. More waves are on the way! See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Our Intermediate surfers had a delightful morning at the picturesque peaks of Dreamland just as the sun emerged from behind the Bukit Peninsula. The swell has dropped off considerably since the day before to a much more manageable size. The waves today came in at around the head-high range on the largest of sets. As always at this time of the year, Dreamland boasted a glassy ocean surface complemented by a gentle offshore breeze. The water showcased a stunning blue hue, a result of the white sand resting on the seafloor. Surfers focused on refining their technique, capitalizing on the mellow, elongated slopes of the waves to enhance balance and control.

Tomorrow, we have the first large swell of the season arriving. Grab a seat cliffside at Uluwatu and enjoy!
