Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

The weather wasn’t the best this morning, but the good waves made up for it. Once you are in the water you don’t mind the rain or cloudy sky. It can actually be very calming and enjoyable when you are not getting roasted by the sun every day.

The waves were very enjoyable anyway and everyone had a blast out there. Slowly the swell is picking up and we expect bigger waves from tomorrow onwards for the rest of the week. Padang-Padang will soon be too big and we are excited to go to other spots like Toro-Toro and Honeymoon again. Getting to know different kinds of waves is an important aspect of learning how to surf. It will improve your wave reading skills and understanding of how certain surf breaks work.

What an amazing surf session we had this morning at our home spot Padang-Padang. The water was crystal clear, the sun was shining and everyone had a smile on their faces. This is what happiness looks like in Bali.

Shoulder-high sets came in consistently and the crowd was spread around the peak evenly. Everyone got their share of good waves and the opportunity to practice take-off and turning. Going along the unbroken face of the wave is one of the best feelings one can have. Once experienced, you definitely will want more and more.

The new swell has arrived and it brought massive waves with it. Padang-Padang was pumping this morning and many surfers got the waves of their lives. Although this wave clearly is not for everybody, the smaller, more user-friendly version of it called “Baby-Padang” was perfect for catching the first green waves.

Due to the big swell, there was a strong current which made it a little difficult to stay in the right place in the line-up. With local knowledge of our surf guides, this was no problem at all! It is important to know the currents and the surf spots very well on days like today. Especially at surf spots like Padang-Padang or Uluwatu. Having more knowledge about the waves and surf breaks will make you more comfortable in the water, have more fun, and progress quicker.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Jimbaran

When the waves get bigger, too big for most of the surf spots in the south of Bali, then Jimbaran is the place to go. A hip-high left-hander is peeling over the reef at the south end of this famous fishing bay. Longboarders and beginner surfers are having a great time surfing there.

If it is your very first time surfing, you can also catch waves at the beach break in front of the local warungs. There is plenty of space in the water and the waves are coming consistently. Okay, it is not the prettiest beach, but who cares when the waves are good? Having a great surf will brighten your mood for the rest of the day and you will enjoy the white sand beaches around Uluwatu even more.

Starting surfing again after a few months of being landlocked can be tricky at first. Same as cycling, surfing is something you never forget after you have done it. Sure, it will take a while to get back in form again, but after a couple of days, you should be right back where you left off. The wave at “Baby-Padang” is perfect to do this.

Of course, progress is the goal for everyone going on a longer surfing trip. With professional help and guidance, this will come faster than you might think. Trying new waves and seeing different surf spots is great, but if you really want to improve the basics, then surfing the same spots can be very beneficial. The more you get to know the wave, the more you will catch and the more progress you will make.
