Beginner Surf Lessons at Pandawa

The new year welcomed us with offshore winds and shoulder high set waves at one of our favourite surf breaks on the Bukit. A not too big and friendly crowd made this session very enjoyable. Among the local rippers were some of Indonesia’s best surfers. Just seeing these talents fly through the air and doing massive turns on such waves, is just incredible.

Not only did the Pros have fun, but many other surfers, experts and intermediates were having lots of waves to practise their surfing skills. On this kind of wave, you need to be able to generate lots of speed to make it around the section and onto the clean face of the wave. Once there, enjoy the ride!

Intermediate surf guiding at Pandawa

A small, low periodic swell made us go down to the south of the Bukit again. This well-known spot is a swell magnet and even with the westerly wind blowing, there were plenty of clean faces to ride.

Occasionally some overhead sets cleaned up the line-up and made it difficult to paddle back out. Given the strong side current, conditions were challenging but worth the paddle once you were on a wave.

Intermediate surf guiding at Pandawa

With the swell dropping today, it is time again for the southerly Bukit. Catching a lot of swell, this spot hardly ever disappoints. Fun, juicy lefts are peeling over this reef and a wide channel helps you to get back in the line-up with no hassle.

On small to medium sized days, this wave offers challenging but user-friendly rides while on bigger days it transforms into a heavy wall of water – for experts only!

While most people come here for surfing, the white sand beach and many warungs make this spot a famous tourist attraction.

Intermediate Surf Guiding at Pandawa, Bali

As all west coast is onshore and there’s no swell, Pandawa is crowded as there’s nowhere else to go in the bukit.

Waves were breaking knee to waist high with shoulder high sets. It’s a slow day so once a wave comes everyone seems to compete on catching them, a reminder to not be greedy and accidents also happen in the water!

Hopefully more swell on the way and sunny days ahead.

Advanced Surf Guiding at Pandawa, Bali

There was an unexpected swell this morning and luckily Pandawa handled it very well.

Some beautiful overhead sets were breaking alongside waist and shoulder high waves.

Wind was blowing gentle offshore as seen in the pictures, the waves were bomb with Gunung Payung also breaking in the distance.

Looking well for tomorrow, hopefully we close 2020 with good surfs. Cheers.

Intermediate Surf Guiding at Pandawa, Bali

Uluwatu wasn’t our call today so our intermediate group headed to Pandawa for an early session.

Waves were breaking waist to overhead high with very light offshore wind.

Some decent barrels were breaking with less than 20 surfers out, wasn’t too crowded yet a bit competitive on catching waves.

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Pandawa, Bali

The past 2 days have been pouring rain in the bukit peninsula, just a reminder to exercise indoors even without surfing.

But pandawa on the other hand, has been great. With few surfers out, everyone had their wave share.

Even with waist to head high and some power sets, the inside is soft enough for intermediate surfers to paddle out. The middle break in front of the beach was breaking nicely that beginners could surf as well.
