Sri Lanka is a right-hand reef break located directly in front of Club Med in Nusa Dua. Known for its fast, barrelling waves that unload into a deep-water channel, it stands out as one of the better options on Bali’s East Coast during the wet season. The wave needs a solid swell to get going, as the swell must wrap in from the southeast. When it’s on, it can resemble Sunset Beach in Hawaii—fast, powerful, and challenging. On big days, it’s strictly for advanced surfers, especially with its steep, pitching take-off that often demands a larger board.
On smaller swells, Sri Lanka becomes more accessible for intermediate surfers, offering fun, rippable walls without the heavy consequences- especially on a mid to high tide. Still, surfers should approach with caution, especially during low tide when the sharp coral reef becomes more exposed and dangerous. On higher tides, the reef hazard is significantly reduced, making it a safer option for intermediates looking to step up.
Sri Lanka isn’t the most consistent wave in Bali. Compared to the exposed breaks on the Bukit Peninsula, it receives less direct swell. However, it does benefit from some protection from southwesterly winds, which makes it a cleaner option when other spots are blown out.
Access to the lineup is relatively easy via a deep-water paddle through the channel, but be aware that currents can be strong, particularly on bigger swell days. Given the wave’s power and reef setup, confidence and solid experience are key—especially on lower tides when the risk factor increases.
Sri Lanka might not fire every day, but when it does, it delivers heavy, high-performance waves with fewer crowds than Bali’s more famous left-handers.
