Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

It was a fun morning today! The waves were great and it wasn’t busy at all in the line-up. A good opportunity to make your first surfing experience. The size of the swell was perfect to start catching green waves. Long, clean rides put a smile on everyone’s face.

At the end of this week, we are expecting another big swell to arrive. Exciting news for all the advanced surfers out there. For our beginner and intermediate surfers, we will be looking at other, more sheltered surf spots like Toro-Toro and Jimbaran. Until then, Padang-Padang is the best place to start and get a feeling of what surfing is all about. The journey is just about to begin!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

It was a usual morning today. The onshore wind made the surf conditions tricky but still very fun at Padang-Padang Beach. As we all know, and this is also what makes surfing so interesting, is that the waves are never the same. Every day is a bit different and learning to adapt to different conditions is part of the experience.

Most people surf when the waves are great, no wonder, but surfing when the waves are not perfect can be very beneficial. There were fewer people out in the line-up, so it was easy to catch many waves. The more waves you catch, the more you progress and develop your surfing skills. Once you get used to surfing in choppy, onshore conditions, surfing when the waves are perfect again, will be much easier and even more fun.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Great waves this morning at Padang-Padang, our home spot! Shoulder-high and super fun to ride, the left and right breaking peaks made everyone happy. Offshore wind conditions shaped the waves perfect for those who woke up early.

The swell forecast predicts medium-sized waves throughout the week. These are great conditions for our beginner and intermediate surfers. Three to five feet is big enough to surf most of the spots in the Bukit and to explore some of those which are normally too challenging, like Uluwatu or Bingin. The best waves are not always the biggest, but the ones with the best shape. Keep this in mind and you will find plenty of rippable waves for all surf levels.

Surfing is a wonderful experience! Being outdoors in the ocean, surrounded by nature is absolutely one of the best moments you can have. When catching a wave and going down the face of the wave for the first time, it feels even better.

Of course, it takes time and practice to be able to catch your own waves and to actually surf right or left on the wave. But once you do, from this point on, the experience will just get better and better. Every session you have will take you closer to the next level. In surfing, you always keep learning, it is one of the few sports that push you to keep going and to improve. This is what makes it so exciting and fun to do on a daily basis!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Swell size is a little smaller today, perfect size at our go to beginners spot Padang Padang rights, also known as baby Padang. We are so lucky to be located just 2 minutes from a perfect beginner wave which is never flat. The advantage of learning to surf in Bali is that the waves are consistent and high quality. It is also much easier without the restricted movement and weight of a wetsuit.

Weather is partially sunny: as always in dry season, the sunshine is interspersed with some cloud cover. Wind is light offshore which is typical for April, and perfect for surfing.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Another sunny morning in Paradise and the waves did not disappoint us! Perfect offshore wind conditions and a solid swell delivered consistently head-high sets. Great to practice catching waves and first turns on the many right or left-handers.

Although the perfect conditions attract more people, professional guidance helps you to catch waves on the right spot in the line-up. At first, this can be difficult when surfing on a new surf spot for the first time, but once you get used to it you will be catching waves yourself in no time! This is what makes Padang-Padang so special, the consistency of waves and opportunities to improve your surfing skills.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Swell size is smaller today – perfect size for beginner and intermediate surfers. This morning we took the short 2 minute ride to baby Padang, which is our go to spot for beginners and improvers. There was very little wind and a slight bump on the wave face, but very good conditions for riding your first green waves. At this size swell on a high tide, the waves break very mellow and the rides are long enough to improve your stance and balance as you progress through the ride. The wave eventually fattens out in deep water and there is a deep water channel that makes it easy to get back in the line up. Relatively uncrowded and lots of waved and fun was had by all our students.

The new swell has finally arrived and the spots around Uluwatu are on fire! Padang-Padang was a little bit more challenging than usual, but everyone had great waves. There was a bit of a crowd since most other spots were too big for the intermediate surfers, but with patience and the right guiding, it was no problem to catch good waves.

The forecast looks promising for the upcoming days, and we are excited to surf some bigger waves again. On the west and east coast, there are many more surf spots that start working when bigger swells arrive. If it is too big in the south of Bali, the east coast provides plenty of opportunities to surf uncrowded waves with your friends!
