Airport Lefts Surf Spot Info, Report and Forecast

Surfing at Airport Lefts

Airport Left is a shifty left-hander located very close to the airport runway and easily accessible from Tuban and Kuta. It is an excellent wave for advanced-level surfers on a small to medium-sized swell. It is hard work on a big swell as the current constantly pulls you out of position. It is a rarity that recent man-made development has improved the wave quality. The extension of the airport in 2018 has shortened the fetch, i.e. the distance that the trade wind travels before reaching the break, so that it can hold a medium-strength wind without getting too choppy or blown out. Read our guide to the airport reefs to find out about Airport Left and the many excellent waves within a short boat ride’s distance.

Intermediate Surf Guiding at Airport left

This morning we planned to surf Toro Toro, but the swell size had dropped considerably overnight. We therefore decided to motor past the airport runway to Airport Lefts which was overhead on the sets.

The offshore trade winds kicked in early this morning, but did not affect the wave quality. Perfect conditions for intermediate surfers as deep water and soft breaking. Some very long rides, and Andy got one of the best waves of his life. Perfect way to start the day.

Advanced surf guiding at Airport Left

Swell was much smaller than expected this morning so we didn’t get to surf Toro Toro. We motored over to Airport Lefts and it was surprisingly empty. A few guys out at Middle reef which looked temptingly good, but we chose the spot with no surfers. Was great fun and a perfect start to the day.

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Airport Left, Bali

Our intermediate and advanced surfers jumped on the boat at Jimbaran this morning at dawn and headed out around the Ngurah Rai International Airport runway to surf at Airport Lefts.

Light offshore winds kept the conditions nice and clean and the rolling chest-high waves were perfect for the range of surfing abilities across the group.

After breakfast, all of the surfers at the camp joined up to surf their second session at Uluwatu before heading back to the surf camp for a well-earned rest.

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Lessons/Guiding at Toro Toro and Airport Lefts, Bali

This morning our intermediate and advanced groups jumped in the boat at Jimbaran bay and headed out the short distance to Toro Toro.

The waves were coming through at a nice size but not as consistently as we would have liked, so our expert surf guides made the call for the advanced group to move over to the higher-performance waves of Airport Lefts — ensuring all our guests had the opportunity to surf the waves best-suited to their abilities.

Everybody had a great session with some particularly long rides and a great time was had by all.

Intermediate surf lessons at Airport Left, Bali

This morning our intermediate group enjoyed their surf lessons at Airport left at dawn. A lot improvement already has been made in surfing skills of our learners but there is no room for complacency. Surfing is an endless learning and improving and our surfers know that. Conditions today clean, light offshore wind and very comfortable for productive surf lessons. New swell apparently postponed its appearance a bit so waves in the morning were chest to shoulder high and super fun.
