Beginner Surfing Lessons at Padang Padang, Bali

Our beginners were back at Padang Padang this morning for their group and private lessons — making some great progress that’s clearly visible from the surf report just a few days ago.

This morning wave height was a beginner-friendly knee to waist-high with a few larger chest-high sets sneaking through.

Tomorrow we’re expecting an increase in swell height so our beginners will be back at Padang Padang where the sheltered bay and the channel in the reef provide the best setup for learning to surf in Bali.

Beginner Surfing Lessons at Padang Padang Rights, Bali

Aside from the local monkeys, our beginners group had Padang Padang beach to themselves this morning for their first lessons of the day. Just after dawn they headed less than 1km to our local break where waves were coming through glassy and between knee and waist-high — the perfect size for building confidence and working on their pop-ups.

Having Padang Padang as our local break means we’re often first in the water and smaller crowds means more waves for everybody and faster progress.

After the quick ride back to camp for breakfast, our beginners got to relax for a short while before they returned to Padang Padang for their second session of surf lessons for the day.

Beginner and Intermediate Surfing Lessons at Balangan, Bali

Balangan was the location chosen by our expert instructors and spot selectors for today’s beginner and intermediate surfing lessons.

Like many of the breaks in the surf camp’s local area, the different sections of the Balangan reef have distinct characteristics which are each suited to different ability levels. This means that, on days like today, both beginner and intermediate surfers can enjoy waves that are perfectly suited to each of them at the same beach.

Waves were coming through between knee and head-high today and everybody had a lot of fun in the November morning sun.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan, Bali

It was another beautiful morning for learning to surf here on Bali’s Bukit peninsular as our two beginner groups headed off to Balangan beach for their surfing lessons.

The knee-high waves — expertly selected by our instructors — were the perfect beginner-friendly introduction for our surfers building their confidence and skills in the water.

For their second session of the day, our beginners groups will either surf at Balangan again or the surf camp’s local break at Padang Padang.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan, Bali

This morning our beginner group headed to Balangan for their surf lessons — one of the most picturesque, palm-fringed beaches on the Bukit peninsular.

As you can see from today’s gallery, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was our beginners’ group as they’ve all already progressed from the whitewater to riding along Balangan’s open faces.

Today’s waves were coming through in the chest to shoulder-high range and providing the perfect balance of challenging but safe conditions to help our surfers progress as quickly as possible.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang, Bali

The surf camp’s beginner surfing lessons took place at our local break this morning — down the road at Padang Padang Rights.

The sun was shining, the winds were light and the waves were coming through glassy and in the waist to shoulder high range.

As our beginners were experimenting with their first turns, there were even a few larger, hollower waves that sneaked through and everyone had a great time.

While the beginners were at Padang Padang, our intermediate and advanced surfers headed to Uluwatu for their first session before everybody joined up to exchange stories of their morning adventures over breakfast back at camp.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang, Bali

This morning our beginners’ group made the drive of less than 1km to our closest beach at Padang Padang for their first session of surfing lessons for the day.

After a short time rehearsing their pop-ups on the sand with some helpful pointers from their expert instructors, they were off into the ocean to put that advice into practice.

The waves were between knee and waist-high this morning which was the perfect size for our beginners — progressing from the whitewater to riding along the waves’ faces.

After breakfast, the beginners joined the intermediate group at Dreamland while our advanced surfers headed out to Temple for their second surf of the morning.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang, Bali

Across the channel from the world-famous Padang Padang lefthander lies the beginners’ playground of Padang Padang Rights, where our beginner surfing lessons took place this morning.

While many people are advised to learn to surf at the sandy beaches of Kuta and Canggu, we disagree. On days like today when the waves are small and peeling slowly, when there are almost no other people in the water and the sun illuminates the crystal clear water, there is simply no better place to learn to surf.

Wave height was in the knee to waist high range with the occasional larger set coming through and everybody had a great double session before heading back to camp for lunch.
