Beginner Surfing in Bali

Our beginner and intermediate group were lucky enough to enjoy Toro Toro at dawn this morning for the second day in a row. The swell had dropped slightly overnight but the lower tide meant the super playful and glassy waves were still breaking in the waist to shoulder-high range.

After a while, our group was joined in the water by a couple of other boats of surfers but there were still loads of waves to go around and everybody got their fill of long rides before heading back to camp for breakfast.

This morning our beginners’ group travelled to Balangan — one of our local beaches and one of the most beautiful on the Bukit peninsular — for their first session of surfing lessons.

Winds were light and the sky was clear as the sun rose over Bali with the waves breaking at a perfectly beginner-friendly knee to chest-high.

Having expert guides who can pick conditions like this makes all the difference and, as you can see from the gallery, our surfers enjoyed many great rides in uncrowded conditions.

After a last-minute change of plan, our ever-adaptable surf instructors took our beginner and intermediate groups over to Black Stone at Nusa Dua this morning for their first session of group and private surf lessons.

With the wind having swung around, our local spots weren’t breaking as cleanly as expected but on the other side of the Bukit peninsular wind was light and offshore and the waves were lovely and clean.

Waves were breaking in the knee to chest high range and everybody had a great session.

This morning our beginners group headed down the road to Padang Padang — our local beach — for their first session of private surfing lessons.

Watched on by the resident monkeys, time was spent on the beach getting accustomed to the perfect popup technique before moving into the water to put that practice to the test.

As you can see from the gallery, there were some impressive rides in the clean, knee to chest-high conditions — a testament to both the fast-learning of our guests and the teaching of our expert instructors.

This morning our beginners made the short journey down to our local break at Padang Padang for their morning group and private surfing lessons..

The wind resulted in the waves not being as perfectly clean as they often are but conditions — breaking softly around knee-high — were still excellent for learning, as you can see from the great rides in today’s gallery.

After a fun and rewarding session, our beginners headed back to camp to refuel before another session back at Padang Padang later in the morning.

This morning our beginner group took advantage of very light winds and surfed just down the road at Dreamland beach for their first session of the day.

The group lessons took place up the beach at the A-frame, which started working more consistently as the tide dropped, and there were others surfing the shorebreak further down the beach too.

After enjoying the beatiful sunrise session and working up their appetities our surfers headed back to the camp for their well-earned breakfasts.

Our beginner and intermediates joined forces to surf at Geger Left for their first session of the day where the sun was shining and the wind was nice and light.

As the knee to chest-high waves peeled down the reef, many great rides were enjoyed and everybody had a fun session.

After breakfast the group moved down the road to the centre of Nusa Dua to surf at Black Stone and on the way passed our advanced surf guiding group who surfed twice at Geger Right.

It’s been over a year since our last surf report from Mushroom Rock in Nusa Dua but that’s exactly where our beginner group headed this morning for their first session of private surf lessons.

There was a fresh offshore wind blowing up the faces of Mushroom Rock’s right-handers and a little current running which made the one-on-one attention of a private instructor even more valuable than normal.

Waves were breaking between waist and shoulder-high today and everybody caught their share of rides before hopping over to Black Stone — on the other side of the headland — for their second session of the day.
