Temples is a section of Uluwatu located between the peak and the mother temple so called because it is the 2nd most important temple in Bali. Tanah lot may get all the attention as it is very Instagrammable, but it really is nothing special, and unless you are Balinese Hindu, you are not allowed to visit there. The Uluwatu Temple is the real deal with a Kecak fire dance every evening, which is one of the top things to do in Uluwatu after you have had your fix of waves.
Temples is a fast-barrelling left-hander and usually less crowded than the Peak as it’s a bit of a long paddle to get there. When pumping, its a heavy wave best surfed on high tide, perfect for advanced surf sessions .
On smaller days, Temples is a great option for intermediate surfers looking to avoid the more crowded peaks at Uluwatu. The longer paddle down the reef deters many, keeping the lineup relatively quiet. Even when the swell is modest, the wave remains playful—sections often link up unexpectedly, creating opportunities for longer, more enjoyable rides than you’d expect at first glance.
